Portland Copwatch to Offer
"Your Rights and the Police" Seminar
Thursday, Feb. 21, CityBikes Annex, 734 SE Ankeny
(RSVP required)

Portland Copwatch will be holding a "Your Rights and the Police" seminar on Thursday, February 21 at 7 PM at CityBikes Annex, 734 SE Ankeny (New location!)
The seminar reviews basic rights to know for being stopped by, harmed by, or when observing the police. A lawyer will be present to help answer legal questions best not answered by the volunteers at PCW.
Rough time frame: 90 minutes.

At the Your Rights seminar, we will set a date for the follow-up training, a 2.5 hour how-to-copwatch training, probably to be held in March or April.

Donations of $10 to help offset the costs of the trainings are welcome but not required; donations usually cover all three workshops (orientation, your rights and copwatch training).

An email or phone reservation is required. Call us at 503-236-3065 or email trainings@portlandcopwatch.org to reserve a spot.

Details:

Portland Copwatch orientation
--------------------------------------

introduces you to our organization and many of the issues we work on, covers possibilities for volunteering, and contextualizes some
of the "Alphabet soup" we talk about at meetings.
(What's the IPR? The CRC? The PPB? The PJTTF?
What's the AMA, the AFSC, the PPA?
How can you express being anti-police brutality but not anti-police?)

The orientation is pretty much mandatory for people who want to be active members of Portland Copwatch.

Depending on the turnout for the orientation, we may also schedule our other two training sessions, a Your Rights and the Police seminar and a Copwatch training, sometime later in the early part of 2008.

RSVP now to secure your place, there will be a cut-off point to limit the number of participants.

Thanks,

Dan Handelman
